Caribbean poet Brathwaite awarded $40,000 prize for literature.
The Caribbean poet E. Kamau Brathwaite, professor of comparative literature at New York University, has been awarded the 1994 Neustadt International Prize for Literature, sponsored by the journal World Literature Today and the University of Oklahoma in recognition of his outstanding achievement in poetry, conferred solely on the basis of literary merit.
The prize consists of $40,000, a replica of an eagle feather cast in silver, and an award certificate. The Neustadt Prize is the first international literary award of this scope to originate in the United States and is one of the ...
