PASSAIC -- For more than a month, police said, 21-year-old Jessy Smith
supported a $300-a-day crack habit by terrorizing a city neighborhood.
Over 32 days, they said, Smith took nearly $1,000 in cash and more than
$1,200 in jewelry at knifepoint from nine victims, most of them young
men.
But police said it wasn't until they got thesuspect some help that
they knew they had the right man.
