An industrialist presiding over an Rs. 20 billion ($640 million) multitechnology company has begun a spiritual odyssey to unite Hinduism and Buddhism.

He says that both religions are integral to sanatana dharma (the law of human conduct).

Bhupendra Kumar Modi, scion of the country's seventh-largest industrial group, says he has established "a global network of gurus" for the cause.

The response to his initiative has been enthusiastic, he adds, although he believes it will be truly successful only if religious leaders realize the fundamental unity of the two religions.
