HACKENSACK -- An effort to keep tobacco products out of the hands of children has
moved the city to join a growing number of towns that have proposed
snuffing out cigarette vending machines.

Officials in towns around North Jersey are pressing stores to push
cigarette cartons behind the counter, where clerks can monitor buyers.
