HACKENSACK -- Over the protests of bar owners and smokers, the City Council has
banned cigarette vending machines as part of a plan to keep tobacco out
of the hands of children.

The ordinance is one of a growing number around North Jersey that
eliminates the machines, which are widely considered the point of
easiest access for children who want to buy cigarettes.
