44 FORT LEE STUDENTS FOUND TO HAVE HEAD LICE

FORT LEE -- It began Wednesday when an eighth-grade student at the Lewis F.
Cole Middle School found shimmering white flecks on the short hair
behind her ears and at the base of her neck.

By early Friday afternoon, stunned school officials discovered that
dozens of students had become unwitting hosts for Pediculosis capitis --
head lice.

School nurses found the tiny white masses of lice eggs on 44 of 177
students examined by the close of school Friday.
