At the turn of the century, visitors poured onto Lackawanna
Railroad trains for weekend getaways to Lake Hopatcong in Landing.
Today, the railroad is operated by New Jersey Transit, and most of
the hotels that crowded Lake Hopatcong have been replaced by private
residences. On Nov. 7, the early era will be recalled with the Lake
Hopatcong Historical Society's presentation of "The Railroads Lead to
Lake Hopatcong."
The program will examine how the railroad turned Lake Hopatcong
into a resort area.
