TRENTON -- Despite some reluctance, the Senate voted 31-5 Thursday for a bill
that would let the state continue housing its excess prisoners in county
jails.
The bill, which passed the Assembly on Monday, now heads for
Governor Whitman's desk. The proposal started in her office, and a
Whitman spokesman said she expects to sign it next week.
