A few years ago, New Jersey teachers were enjoying 9 percent pay
raises at a time when workers in private industry were suffering wage
freezes and layoffs. But those generous increases are a thing of the
past.
Teachers' salary increases during the past 10 years outstripped
inflation by 250 percent, but average raises have dropped steadily for
five years, the New Jersey Schools Boards Association reports.
