TRENTON -- In a decision that expands the right to counsel for criminal
suspects in New Jersey beyond protections afforded by the U.S.
Constitution, the state Supreme Court on Thursday reversed the murder
conviction of a Passaic man, asserting that once he was indicted, the
man should not have been questioned by police without having a lawyer
present.
