Kenyatta calls Baptist convention a fraud, betrayed Rev. Richardson.
After what many are hailing as a successful five-day national convention in New Orleans, Rev. Charles Kenyatta, a Harlem street preacher, this week called the election of a new president of the 7.5 million-member Baptist Convention a fraud.
Kenyatta said the election was a betrayal of Rev. Dr. W. Franklin Richardson of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., by the New York and Northern delegates, orchestrated by the Southern "boys club," which vowed to keep the presidency within the Southern domain.
