When the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival needed a new artistic director, it turned to Heiichiro Ohyama.

The Kyoto-born conductor, who is also the former principal violist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, has inspired the same kind of trust from orchestras and festivals around the United States. He now directs five others: La Jolla SummerFest; Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra; Japan-America Symphony Orchestra of Los Angeles; Cayuga Chamber Orchestra of Ithaca, N.Y.; and Round Top Music Festival in Texas, where he is principal conductor.
