SAN FRANCISCO -- Amy Tan, author of "The Joy Luck Club," recently proved that women can become the masters of illusion when she performed an open reading dressed in studded cuffs, a leather dog leash, fishnet stockings and man-stomping boots.
Tan read excerpts from "Mid-Life Confidential" (Viking), a new book she wrote with 14 other writers, at a Clean Well-Lighted Place For Books in San Francisco on Sept. 1.
