In the midst of the worst drought in Maine and Kennebec County in more than
30 years, state officials have decided to invest $12,000 in keeping the grass
green on the grounds of Maine's executive mansion.
State Administrative and Financial Services Commissioner Janet E. Waldron
said her budget for several years has included plans to install the automated
underground lawn sprinkler system at the Blaine House. Until now, higher
priorities have pushed the lawn-watering project aside, Waldron said.
