Surgeon General praises graduates.

U.S. Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders praised Presbyterian Medical Center's School of Practical Nursing graduates fro showing alternatives to welfare last Friday at the school's commencement address.

Most of the 36 people who received their degrees in practical nursing from Presbyterian were members of Ladder of Opportunity's program, which re-trains lowincome people for a career in nursing. One-third of the graduates had been welfare recipients at some time, and nine are still receiving public assistance.
