Alternative to abortion: Orthodox assist Israeli women who can't afford. another child

Each morning, when Sigal Turgeman passes by the local medical center in her home town of Ashkelon on her way to work, she feels a little queasy.

Three years ago, the 24-year-old statistician was scheduled to have an abortion in that same medical center. But an Orthodox counseling organization persuaded her to have the baby, and this month Sigal's son, Shai - the fruit of that fateful decision - entered nursery school.
