Hispanics Boycott Compton School.

Despite attempts by Latino activists to organize attendance boycotts at a Compton elementary school last week, district officials confirmed that approximately 100 of the school's 431 students took part in the strike, just a little above the normal daily absentee rate for a normal school day.

"I suspect (the boycott) has some impact (on attendance)," said Deputy Superintendent George McKenna. "A significant enough impact for us to be concerned."
