Caribbean school district a new wrinkle in the wash.
Caribbean-American educators, elected leaders and community activists are seeking the establishment of a Caribbean school district in Brooklyn. A plan for the new school district was submitted last week to the Board of Education under the new school redistricting plan.
Under the proposed plan, the Caribbean school district would include elementary, junior high and high schools culled from parts of school districts 17, 18 and 22. Some 12,000 to 18,000 students, mostly of Caribbean descent, would be covered by the new school district.
