(The State News) (U-WIRE) EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Golfers could see their favorite par-four hole become an environmental protector under a program run by the state and Michigan State University.

The Michigan Turfgrass Environmental Stewardship Program partners MSU, state agencies and the golf course industry in an effort to improve and preserve the environment on and around golf courses.

Gov. John Engler highlighted the program and announced plans to develop criteria for new golf course construction to protect the environment during a press conference Wednesday at the Egypt Valley County Club in Ada, home of the PGA Senior Tour's Foremost Insurance ...
