Treasures of a Wandering Jew.

In 1874, at the age of 8, David Solomon Sassoon exchanged a kite for a scroll of Ruth in Arabic made for the use of the Jews of Baghdad. By the time he died in 1942, he had accumulated more than 1,000 Jewish manuscripts from all corners of the globe. Portions of his collection, which is considered the greatest library of Hebrew and Samaritan manuscripts ever assembled, are being exhibited June 16-20 at the Sotheby's auction house in London, where they will be auctioned on June 21.
