Diamondbacks 2, Pirates 1
PITTSBURGH, Aug. 23 (UPI) _ Bob Ryan, an outfielder making his first
major league start, homered in the third inning and Armando Reynoso
allowed one run over six innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks edged the
Pittsburgh Pirates Monday night, 2-1.
The 26-year-old Ryan, who had just two appearances as a pinch hitter
since being recalled from Triple-A Tucson last Monday, belted a 2-2
pitch off Francisco Cordova (8-6) to give the Diamondbacks the lead.
It was Ryan's first major league hit in his fourth at-bat. He was a
