BUTTON accordion great Joe Derrane performed in New York City for the first time in more than 40 years at a December 3 concert sponsored by the World Music Institute. Accompanied by pianist Felix Dolan, the Boston-born musician demonstrated that he has lost none of the virtuoso skill and showman's flair that made him a traditional music legend in the 1940s and '50s. The 64-year-old Derrane played with the vigor of a youngster and won a standing ovation from an enthusiastic audience at the Washington Square Methodist Church in Greenwich Village.
