Once reviled, now revered: White House rolls out red carpet for veterans. of the Red Army
The Soviet Union's Red Army was once America's staunchest adversary. For years, it stood as a symbol of all this country found unsavory behind the Iron Curtain.
That was then....
This September, 15 veterans of the Red Army, now living in the United States, came together at the White House to be honored by President Clinton and Russian President Boris Yeltsin at a ceremony. Fifteen American veterans were also honored.
Two area men, Harry Glazer and Lev Kheyfets, who fought the Nazis in World War II for the Soviets, were among the honorees.
