The HEIRS OF KING SOLOMON: Jewish justices make their mark on the nation's highest court

We may be proud of the collective on bench achievements of the seven Jewish Supreme Court justices who have sat on the highest tribunal of our land between 1916 (the year of the Louis Brandeis appointment) and the September 1994 investiture of Stephen Breyer.

Three among them have been universally regarded and ranked as among the court's truly great members: Brandeis, Benjamin Cardozo and Felix Frankfurter. One justice, Abe Fortas, could have been as highly ranked but for his tragic self-inflicted wounds to his career.
