Minorities Denounce "Plantation" Mentality At Agriculture Department:. Outgoing Secretary Credited With Positive Changes

On December 31, the first African American to head the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), will be leaving his position.

But for Blacks and other minorities at the federal department, Secretary Mike Espy's departure comes at an inopportune time as they begin to battle race discrimination on the "last plantation" in the federal bureaucracy.

"We are greatly sorry to see Secretary Espy depart without having the opportunity to continue to lead USDA toward accomplishing the goals and objectives of this administration," the group ...
