Base: Umpires file lawsuit to save 22 jobs

PHILADELPHIA, Aug 30 Reuters - The Major League Umpires Association has made another legal
manoeuvre to try to save the jobs of 22 baseball umpires in danger of being out of work later
this week.

A lawsuit seeking to preserve the "status quo" of umpires was filed today against the
National and American Leagues in US District Court. The umpires' union had filed a demand on
Friday for arbitration with the American Arbitration Association but the leagues rejected it.

Citing the "irreparable harm" that would be done to the 22 umpires, the suit is the latest
