Dick Campbell, 91, takes final bow.
The setting chosen to celebrate the life of Dick Campbell and give his family and friends a moment to say good-bye couldn't have been more appropriate.
The place was St. Patrick's Cathedral, at Fifth Avenue and 49th Street, dressed in all the beauty and pageantry of the Yuletide season. Clusters of blazing red poinsettias reached back tier upon tier like a bright red river. They almost symbolized the vital significance of the mission of the Sickle Cell Disease Foundation -- the microscopic examination of the blood -- that Dick, as executive director, had devoted so many years of his life to publicizing.
