Emil Guillermo: New York's Smart Asians; Whores, Bores And Under Doors.
The cover of the Jan. 30 issue of New York Magazine was particularly daunting.
"The 100 Smartest New Yorkers," it read.
Who would want to read that? Even I hesitated opening the magazine for days, anxiety ridden over the prospects of being 101st.
Actually, I would put myself much smarter than all of them. I'm smart enough not to live in New York. But I'm obviously not smart enough to be above it all and pre-empt any doubt of my intelligence by coming up with the idea of a damn list in the first place.
At some point I couldn't stand the sight of the magazine on my coffee table and finally, ...
