The American family has always had to face great challenges. What must be understood is that American life went from an agricultural society to a growing commerical industrial society and the family structure shifted. Technological advancements in household appliances meant that women began pursuing other interests outside the home. But what remains a compelling fact is that poverty plays a large part in the breakdown of the American family.
