USC Adopts Asian American Studies.

In an effort to align itself with its rival UCLA, the University of Southern California (USC) has introduced an Asian American Studies program within the American Studies and Ethnicities department.

Unlike the University of California, Irvine, where students in 1991 loudly demanded the administration add courses and hire professors to reflect the 40 percent Asian American student population, the Asian American studies program at USC was created largely as a result of administrative support.
