Something lacking in Black music today.

"Reflections" received an interesting letter from Shawn Shackelford, a 22-year-old University of Michigan student and staunch music lover. (I love getting letters from readers, whom I consider "friends in the spirit of music.")

Says Shackelford: "Today's R&B music is generally not very good. So much of it seems plastic and so many of our Black artists are showing no creativity and emotion in their music. I find it very disheartening since R&B is the foundation of so much of today's popular music (rock, rap, etc.) I think it's time for people, especially Black people, to start demanding better quality ...
