Halfway house is protested.

No way.

Not here -- not now.

That was the sentiment of dozens of North Philadelphia residents who recently turned out to protest a proposed halfway house for Eighth Street and Girard Avenue.

"We don't need more decay in this community. We need something that's in the interest of the community," Lucy Brooks a representative of the Ludlow Community residents said.

A crowd of about 75 filled the Temple Presbyterian Church, on Seventh and Thompson streets, 6 P.M. Thursday to oppose the facility slated to house 48 state prison inmates for up to a year as they try to adjust to life outside ...
