Cemetery's Art Is Portal to History

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- In this Indianapolis history classroom you won't find books or desks. The lessons emerge from Crown Hill Cemetery's 555 park-like acres, where nearly 190,000 people are buried.

From pioneers to a president, the rich and poor are side by side. Each has a story to tell.

The inscriptions and fine artwork adorning the monuments provide the cultural portal through which visitors can look back in time to learn not only about an individual, but how society viewed death and memorialization.
