Pact Near on Mormon Ritual: Baptisms of Dead Holocaust Victims May. Be Curbed
Officials in the Jewish community and at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly known as the Mormons, are close to reaching a settlement regarding the practice by some church adherents of baptizing dead Holocaust victims by proxy, the Forward has learned.
The lead negotiator on behalf of the Jewish community, Ernest Michel, told the Forward that an announcement is likely by the end of this month, prompting speculation that the church may censure the practice and remove names of victims from its International Genealogical Index, a vast database used for ...
