Illinois Excluded in Organ Sharing

CHICAGO (AP) -- Patients in grave need of new livers have been put at risk by a new Midwestern organ-sharing network that excludes Illinois, some organ transplant officials say.

``The bottom line is I think somebody's going to die,'' said Dr. Michael Abecassis, director of liver transplants at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

According to a four-state agreement launched this week, donor livers are offered to patients with the most urgent need regardless of where they reside in Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.
