Yankees 5, Devil Rays 4
NEW YORK (AP) -- Bernie Williams hit a two-run homer, leading Andy Pettitte and the New York Yankees over Tampa Bay 5-4 Thursday for their 16th win in 17 meetings with the Devil Rays.
New York won in its 15,000th game since entering the American League. The Yankees, formerly the Highlanders, are 8,451-6,463 with 86 ties.
Pettitte (7-7), struggling for most of the season, won his second straight decision. He pitched into the seventh inning when the Devil Rays scored twice to make it 5-4.
Pettitte allowed four runs and six hits in six-plus innings. He walked four and struck out four.
