Cardinals Trade Mercker to Red Sox
MONTREAL (AP) -- The Boston Red Sox are getting serious about their wild-card stretch run and Kent Mercker is glad that he'll be a part of it.
The Red Sox, tied with Oakland for the AL wild-card spot entering Tuesday night's games, acquired the left-hander from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for two minor leaguers.
``I was fortunate early in my career with Atlanta to go to five playoffs,'' Mercker said. ``I've missed that atmosphere and I'm looking forward to getting back into it.''
Mercker is 6-5 with a 5.12 ERA this season in 25 games, 18 of them starts. Since July 1, Mercker is 4-2, with a 3.99 ERA. He is also 1-0 with a 2.53 ...
