The Death Penalty is Unconstitutional.
I recently reintroduced my longstanding resolution which calls for a constitutional amendment to ban the death penalty. Despite the fact that it is very popular these days for elected officials to take the opposite approach - to ask for increased use of the death penalty - I still believe in my heart that capital punishment is unconstitutional and should be banned. Further, I believe that violence begets violence, and in a nation where violence has provoked pervasive and paralyzing fear in our communities, we need to find solutions that promote peace and civility, not further violence.
