Rizal's marker unveiled in city.

Exactly 107 years after Dr.Jose P. Rizal's four-day stopover in New York City enroute to London while escaping Spanish persecution in the Philippines, a bronze marker commemorating the historic visit was unveiled May 13 at The International Toy Center building in Manhattan, the site of the former Fifth Avenue Hotel where Rizal stayed May 13-16, 1888.

The 18x20 bronze marker will be installed later in the interior wall of the building lobby near the entrance door of The Toy Center. The marker reads: "Dr. Jose Rizal (1861-1896), National Hero and Martyr of the Philippines stayed here, the site of the former Fifth ...
