Researchers try new ways to help patients deal with stress.

A breakthrough application in anesthesiology by a Vanderbilt University Medical Center researcher may reduce dangerous cardiovascular stress associated with major surgery.
Dr. Margaret Wood, professor of Anesthesiology and associate professor of Pharmacology, successfully inhibited high adrenaline release and lowered blood pressure in animal models through use of the inhalational anesthetic halothane. The technique has potential for reducing a patient's pre-operative stress, which can cause dangerous complications during surgery.
