Mayor Richie Daley led a large contingency of high-ranking public and religious leaders as more than 20,000 mourners turned out to pay their last respects to Bishop Louis Henry Ford, presiding leader of the 8.1 million strong Church of God in Christ (COGIC).
Mourners lined up for nearly four blocks for 24 straight hours to get a glimpse at one of the nation's most prominent and influential religious icons.
Leake Funeral Home executive John McCall told the Tri-State Defender that Ford's body arrived at the Southside funeral home around 3 a.m., "and people lined the streets from then until 3 a.m. the next ...
