If you were to believe everything you heard in Washington these days, all teen mothers are bad, everyone on welfare is lazy and public broadcasting is only for the elite. All of us outside of the beltway and in the real world know that all of those caricatures are untrue, unfair and misleading.

Yet Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and Senator Larry Pressler, among others, continue their attacks on public broadcasting, threatening to take away Federal funding and make public radio and television just one more commercial network.
