The party of Lincoln which ended slavery in America has now become the party of racism. If you haven't detected that fact you have missed one of the most significant implications of recent elections in this country.

What has happened is that the Republican party, which once had its only strength in states north of the Mason-Dixon Line, is now becoming the party of the South where race is just as big an issue as ever when white voters go to the ballot box.
