Clinton Raises Funds for Texas Rep.

TEXARKANA, Texas (AP) -- President Clinton repaid Texas Rep. Max Sandlin's loyalty during his impeachment by coming here through inclement weather to help raise money to clear Sandlin's campaign debt.

``He fights for you up there,'' Clinton told Sandlin supporters at a reception before a $1,000-a-plate dinner at a private home. The reception was moved to a nearby community center because the tent in which it was to be held was flooded.

" The president said he came to support Sandlin, a Democrat first elected in 1996, out of more than sheer party loyalty.
