The Nature of Armenia.
Armenia lies at the northern limit of the arid Iranian geoclimatic zone and southern limit of the temperate Caucasian zone. It contains plant and animal species common to each zone, co-existing at the limits of their respective ranges. Complicated topography, varied climate, and sharp contrasts in altitude have led to the development of a large number of distinct ecosystems on the territory of the tiny country and to the evolution of a correspondingly large number of plant and animal species.
