Amid the bustle of reconstruction in Beirut, workers are repairing Lebanon's war-battered National Museum that was among the most important archaeological museums in the Middle East.

Workmen are fitting new stone blocks to repair shell holes in the honey-colored facade, filling in thousands of bullet holes and securing doors and windows that have been open to the elements for years.
