Before reaching to the core of a person, several protective layers must be removed. It is within the core that the essence of a person is discovered--the foundation, the part of the self that cannot be changed. The core is where the soul is housed and where energy is released.
Yasmen Mehta, the choreographer for and director of the California Contemporary Dancers, looks for the core and expects her dancers to do the same. Mehta calls herself a seeker of truth and in her work confronts some fundamental questions.
