Black Firefighters Force Union Decertification Elections.
An election to determine whether Black members of the D.C. Fire Department should decertify from Local 36 was held last Thursday under the supervision of the Washington, D.C. chapter of the League of Women Voters.
Local 36 is recognized as the bargaining agent on behalf of a unit of all uniformed members of the D.C. Fire and emergency Medical Services Department in the ranks of firefighter through captain, according to the union's constitution.
But early this year, more than 400 Black firefighters filed a petition with the Public Employee Relations Board (PERB), seeking to decertify the ...
