News and Views: The Sweatt Family Blazes a New Trail Into Jim Crow.

In 1947 a black mailman named Heman Marion Sweatt integrated higher education in the state of Texas when he and Thurgood Marshall persuaded the courts that the University of Texas basement law school for Negroes was a mere subterfuge. Heman Sweatt's nephew has recently been named head of the once lily-white 500-member Dallas, Texas, medical association.
