Republican makes inroads in Detroit.

Myrah Kirkwood admits that running as a Republican in a Detroit partisan race is almost tantamount to political suicide.
"It is definitely a barrier," Kirkwood told the Michigan Chronicle. "Those barriers are breaking down though. As the Republican philosophy gets out there more and African Americans see what the party's beliefs are, more will come out and say they're Republican and we'll make inroads among the community."
